Milkweed Borer [Tetraopes femoratus] found near Fletcher Park, off Mills Gap on 18 June 2016.  It’s a Longhorn Beetle, in the family Cerambycidae.  There was a milkweed plant nearby, but the plant it’s on is unidentified, as the leaves are not the right shape to be milkweed. This appears to be a Tawny-Edged Skipper Butterfly [Polites themistocles] found in Fletcher, North Carolina on 19 September 2013.  Reader’s Digest North American Wildlife, page 269, states this species is a member of the Branded Skipper (Hesperiidae) family, and “rests with [its] forewings upright and hindwings spread.” Butterflies and Moths of North America: Polites themistocles
