Eastbound on I-26 in Tennessee

I was headed eastbound on I-26 in Tennessee and took in this beautiful view this morning. I believe it’s Spivey Mountain, but it was not far from a sign for South Indian Creek.

Cypressvine [Ipomoea quamoclit] found at the Manna Food Bank demonstration garden in Asheville, North Carolina on 5 September 2013.  It’s a cultivated vine that’s a member of the Morning-glory (Convolvulaceae) family. USDA Plants Link: Ipomoea quamoclit

Pink Turtlehead

Pink Turtlehead[Chelone lyonii] found at NC Arboretum on 3 September 2013. It’s a member of the Figwort (Scrophulariaceae) family. Newcomb’s Wildflower Guide, pages 94-95, states that it blooms in moist thickets in late summer and fall, and that it escaped from cultivated gardens. USDA Plants Listing: Chelone lyonii

Pickerelweed[Pontederia cordata] found near a pond at Fletcher Park on 28 August 2013. It’s a member of theWater-Hyacinth (Pontederiaceae) family. Newcomb’s Wildflower Guide, pages 50-51, states it blooms in summer and fall, commonly found “on margins of rivers and ponds.” USDA Plants Listing: Pontederia cordata
