Yellow Wood-Sorrel or Common Yellow Oxalis

Yellow Wood-Sorrel [Oxalis stricta] photos were taken at the North Carolina Arboretum, in Asheville, on 14 May 2017.  It’s a member of the Wood-Sorrel (Oxalidaceae) family. Newcomb’s Wildflower Guide, pages 246-247, states that it blooms from Spring to Fall and is a “common weed of gardens and roadsides.” USDA Plants Listing: Oxalis stricta

Pink Turtlehead

Pink Turtlehead[Chelone lyonii] found at NC Arboretum on 3 September 2013. It’s a member of the Figwort (Scrophulariaceae) family. Newcomb’s Wildflower Guide, pages 94-95, states that it blooms in moist thickets in late summer and fall, and that it escaped from cultivated gardens. USDA Plants Listing: Chelone lyonii

Mountain Phlox or Wideflower Phlox

Mountain Phlox or Wideflower Phlox [Phlox latifolia] found at NC Arboretum on 2 July 2013. It’s a member of the Phlox (Polemoniaceae) family. Newcomb’s Wildflower Guide, pages 248-249, states that it blooms in woods in spring and early summer. It also lists it under the synonym of Phlox ovata. USDA Plants Listing: Phlox latifolia
