Monarch Butterflies [Danaus plexippus] found in Fletcher, North Carolina on 19 & 24 September 2013.  Reader’s Digest North American Wildlife, page 264, shows that this species can be found throughout the United States, southern Canada, and parts of Mexico. Tawny-Edged Skipper Butterfly

This appears to be a Tawny-Edged Skipper Butterfly [Polites themistocles] found in Fletcher, North Carolina on 19 September 2013.  Reader’s Digest North American Wildlife, page 269, states this species is a member of the Branded Skipper (Hesperiidae) family, and “rests with [its] forewings upright and hindwings spread.” Butterflies and Moths of North America: Polites themistocles

Strawberry Bush or Bursting-Heart

Strawberry Bush or Bursting-Heart [Euonymus americanus] found at 106 Troy Hill Circle on 15 September 2013. This shrub is a member of the Bittersweet (Celastraceae) family.
