Thimbleweed or Tall Anemone [Anemone virginiana] found on the Campbell Road on Trout Lake in Hermon, New York on 26 June 2013 and on Troy Hill Drive on 11 July 2013. It’s a member of the Buttercup (Ranunculaceae) family. Newcomb’s Wildflower Guide, pages 288-289, says that it’s found in rocky woods and banks and comes out in summer.
