Old Stella Mines Area

My sister, Julie Spadaccini, and I went out on a hike at the location of the old Stella Mines, between Hermon and DeKalb Junction, New York.  The most interesting wildflowers that I spotted were Sheep Laurel, found near the slag pond, which I haven’t seen elsewhere in my travels.  The property is owned by Ralph Browning, who was kind enough not to call the sheriff on us for trespassing.  He had to guide us out when it got too dark and I couldn’t find the old path to DeKalb-Russell Road.
