Scarlet Lychnis or Maltese Cross [Lychnis chalcedonica] in the Mitchell, Ontario Demonstration Forest on on 19 June 2013. It’s a member of the Pini (Caryophyllaceae) family. Newcomb’s Wildflower Guide, pages 258-259, says that it blooms in summer and that it “escaped from gardens to roadsides and thickets.”
